This page deals with changing the appearance of the textual labels for item(s) on the map.

The font of a label is the shape of the letters to be used. There will be various fonts already installed on your computer (the same ones you use when word-processing etc.). Choose the one you feel most complements the items on the map.
The size of the font, hence the size of the letters on-screen is measured in 'points' - a measure used in the printing industry. Simply choose a size that makes the labels readable without obscuring other details behind it. 12 points is a good starting point but adjust it to suit. The larger the number, the larger the letters. Note that the labels remain the same size when zooming in or out to remain readable (see 'changing the views').
The style of a font means whether you would like it to appear in bold type and/or in italics.
Put a tick in either, both or neither box to change the look of the text.

Choosing a colour for the font changes the colour of the letters used for the text. Simply click 'Choose a colour' and the current colour chosen is shown next to it.
The highlight for a label, is the colour of the background that the text is displayed on top of. If no highlight is used, then the background of the label is transparent, i.e. whatever is behind the label, shows through. On detailed backgrounds this can make it difficult to see the label (see below).
